An Overview to CPAP Setups and Pricing

Diving into the world of Positive AirwayPressure devices? From masks, tubes, straps, and the CPAP device itself, there’s a lot to consider. At GEM SLEEP, we are here to make it easy.

When you are ready to start on CPAP, we will guide you through picking your machine and mask, and make sure you have everything else you need in a simple 90 day bundle. We even provide a discount off the individual retail price for purchasing in a bundle.

Let’s review each component of a CPAP setup and their typical prices…

Types of Sleep Apnea Devices

When getting set up with a little motorized sleep assistant, there are three main types:

●     Continuous Positive AirwayPressure (CPAP) devices which provide consistent pressure while active.

●     Automatically adjustingPositive Airway Pressure (APAP) devices that adjust the airflow based on howheavy your breathing is throughout the night.

●     Bilevel Positive AirwayPressure (BiPAP) devices that adjust even further, offering different pressurelevels for inhalation and exhalation.

At GEM SLEEP, depending on your clinical situation, we typically recommend Auto CPAP (that can function as a CPAP orAPAP) devices due to the superior comfort and adaptability.

Machine Costs

Here are a few of the top picks at different price with the most popular brands:

●     ResMed Airsense 11 Auto CPAP -$1,000-$1,100

●     React Health Luna G3 Auto CPAP- $750-$850

●     ResMed AirMini Travel Auto CPAP- $900-$1,000

Types of Masks

The most critical part of your CPAP set up aside from the machine itself is the mask. There are 3 main types of masks tochoose from:

·      Full face mask

·      Nasal mask

·      Nasal pillow

The right mask type for you will depend onyour personal situation and preferences. During your CPAP order, we will guideyou through a mask fitting quiz that provides a customized recommendation.

Full face masks can range from $50-$150, nasal masks and nasal pillows can vary from $40-$100.

Pro Tip: when comparing prices make sure to check if headgear is included or sold separately. GEM SLEEP includes it in our90 days bundle!

Rest of the CPAP Set Up

To round out your CPAP set up you’ll need:

·      Mask headgear (see pro tip above)

·      Mask cushions (the first one comes with your mask)

·      Tubing (included with the CPAP machine)

·      Air Filters (the first one comes with the machine)

·      Humidifiers (integrated into most machines)

Most of these items require regular replacement to keep your CPAP working its best. In the GEM SLEEP bundle we provide the quantity you’ll need for a full 90 days. After the 90 days, we’ll send you reminders when it’s time to get new supplies OR you can opt-in to GEM's resupply subscription program and we will automatically send you shipments every 90 days!

Paying for your CPAP

You may decide to purchase your CPAP out of pocket, or pursue coverage through your health plan.

Most health plans do cover CPAPs if you follow their rules and requirements. This typically involves demonstrating a minimum amount of usage each month for the payer to continue covering yourCPAP. When using health insurance, you are likely to still owe out of pocket costs from co-pays, coinsurance, or for your annual deductible. GEM SLEEP is in-network for certain health insurers (and adding more frequently!). When you go through your GEM SLEEP CPAP order, we will check your insurance coverage status. If your plan is covered, we will submit a claim on your behalf.

The other option is to pay out of pocket. While the costs you pay won’t go towards your insurance deductible, you wouldn’t be subject to payers’ requirements on how or when you use your CPAP.GEM SLEEP offers payment plans and special offers for out-of-pocket customers.
