I want to talk about how to maintain a solid bite throughout the course of treatment. And in order to do that we have what we call a bite management or occlusal management program. The key element to this program is a morning positioner device, we call it an AM positioner. This hand is an upper device and in this hand is a lower device. We will make the determination about whether upper or lower device would fit best for your individual situation.

What you do with the morning positioner is after taking your nighttime appliance out in the morning I would wait 10 minutes or so and just move your jaw very gently.  You know while you're doing other things just to get it loosened up a little bit. After 10 minutes this is the lower one you would place it over your lower front teeth, and you would close into it gently and release. You close into it gently, hold it for about five seconds and release. Do this for four times a minute for about 15 minutes in the morning while you're in the shower or getting dressed or doing other things. It's basically guiding your jaw back into its normal position. Because these devices, the morning positioners, are set up in your normal solid bite and this will guide you your jaw back into position. It's important initially to close into the device gently and after about five minutes you can start to be a little more assertive in biting into it. As your jaw becomes a little more comfortable and acclimated after using the appliance at night. After 15 minutes of use take the morning positioner out, bite down and just make sure that your molar teeth are coming together solidly. If they are then you're set. If you feel like they're not quite solid yet, then I would do this for about another 10 to 15 minutes.

If you are tired or exhausted do not operate a vehicle or machinery.
